Brownstones and Bagels, an East-Village New York Engagement Session.

I met Emily and Kaegan in New York for their urban engagement shoot, downtown in the East Village neighborhood where Kaegan was living at the time.  It could not have been a more perfect location for such a jet-setting, adventurous, and well-traveled couple.  Their love story began when they first met in university, completing their degrees in architecture, and they have since lived and worked all over the world, pursuing their careers as international architects.

Throughout their relationship they’ve lived and worked, together and separately, from New York, to Japan, to North Bay, to Toronto, and beyond.  I was lucky to catch up with them early one morning outside of Kaegan’s flat in the East Village, when Emily and I both flew down for a visit.  They were game to get up ungodly early to spend some time exploring their neighborhood before everything got too busy (major brownie points for being so game guys!).  New York might be known as the city that never sleeps, but we didn’t run into too many people at 5:30 in the morning!  The next few hours were spent wandering classic brownstone-lined streets, visiting their favorite neighborhood haunts, and watching the city (and it’s many dog residents) come alive to start their day.   When we finally waved goodbye, they were off to get a bagel for breakfast, and Kaegan was musing about what kind of pizza he wanted to have later that day.  It could not have been any more classic New York.

I first met Emily at The White Squirrel Coffee shop in Toronto, and knew we would get along right away when she told me she would be coming straight over from having brunch with friends.  I had no idea how awesome the two of them are together though until we started shooting together.  I should have known that they were going to be a tonne of fun by how game they were to arrange our early morning engagement session in New York, but I was still blown away by their creative and free spirited natures that came out to shine on their wedding day.  I’m still working on editing all of their wedding photographs from a few weekends ago, but I can’t wait to share photographs from our sunset session, you’re going to be so inspired by what down to earth and relaxed people they are, even tromping through the muddy woods on their wedding day!

Melody & Edmond's Elegant Engagement at Queen's University, Kingston

Melody & Edmond traveled from Hong Kong to meet me in Kingston where they first met, on the campus of Queen's University.  We explored their their old stomping grounds and favorite haunts around campus, including the library where they spent hour after hour sitting and studying across from each other, before heading into Kingston.  In town we explored the cutest cobbled streets, open squares lined with gorgeous parliament buildings and restaurants, and visited Melody's favorite buildings (I was amazed by how European Kingston can feel!).  We walked past the go-to restaurants of their university days and reminisced, before finishing our shoot together at the waterfront on Lake Ontario.  I love taking a walk down memory lane together with my clients during their engagement sessions, and it was an added treat to be guided around Kingston together with these two!

I can't wait for you to scroll through and see how sweet these two are together, and I guarantee you're going to fall in love with each of Melody's stunning custom dresses.  She even had some of her talented friends come along to do her hair, makeup, and floral crown during the shoot!

Anthea & Andrew's London Diner Engagement Session

Anthea and Andrew took me for a tour of their early relationship for our engagement session together.  I traveled to London to meet them and visit their university stomping grounds, the old classic diner where they spent many late nights and early mornings together, and even the room where they first met when Anthea asked him to take a picture for her.  It was so special getting explore these nostalgic places together, and so much fun getting to photograph these two as they reminisced, giggled over old inside jokes, and marveled at where life takes you.  Enjoy.

Engagement Session at The Beaches

Meredith and Oliver came into the city to meet me for their engagement session in Riverdale and the Beaches.  We had so much fun exploring and shooting together, I walked away head over heels in love with this couple, and absolutely can't wait to photograph their wedding this upcoming summer!  Highlight: every time he told her she was beautiful, he would follow it up with something like 'and smart' or 'and you make me laugh', Meredith, well done ;).

A Rainy Day Muskoka Engagement Session with Haley & Joe

Haley & Joe met me in Muskoka for their engagement session at the family cottage this fall.  None of us were expecting quite how freezing cold the rain and driving winds would be when we got there, but without a moment's hesitation they were ready to take off their coats and stand at the end of windy docks for the sake of a good photograph.  I love all of my gung-ho clients!  Between multiple trips dashing back to the cars to warm ourselves up and dry my lenses out, we created some fabulous photographs of their engagement in beautiful Ontario Cottage Country in the fall, rain, wind, and all.

Port Stanley Engagement Session

Sara and Luke's engagement session in Port Stanley was well worth the drive from Toronto, I have to send a shout-out to CAA for making it happen!  None of us had ever been to Port Stanley before, and we were all excited to checkout the beaches, quaint little town streets, and waterfront houses during the off-season.  It really is a fabulous area, and we were lucky to go in the shoulder season to miss the crowds and have miles of white sand beach to ourselves as the sun was setting!  These two were so fun to photograph and explore a new area with, and really I don't think anything can beat sunset photos on a beach by the lake-shore.  I can't wait to kick my wedding season off to an amazing start with these two in just a few more weeks!

Creemore Engagement Shoot

Katie and Jamie planned the perfect engagement session up in Creemore this fall.  Starting out with a beer tasting at the Creemore brewery, we then moved into a quaint Creemore coffee shop, and eventually finished up with an evening at Wasaga Beach with miles of white sand to ourselves.  I love shooting fun engagement sessions that represent a couple, the places that are important to them, and things that represent them together.  These two absolutely killed it, and finishing off with this engagement session has made me so excited already to keep working with my amazing clients in the new year!

Kaileen and Craig Engagement Session

Kaileen and Craig were an unreal couple to photograph.  Between bringing along their new puppy and being totally game to checkout a new location with me, I was excited from the get-go!  Like the exploration keener that I am, I arrived at the location way too early in my excitement to see a new part of the Toronto waterfront, then found these two were at the park early too!  This meant to be moment gave us some awesome extra time to take photographs, and they happily stuck around with me until the end to get that perfect Cliffside light I was so excited about!  Kaileen and Craig, you guys are a dream.  I can’t wait to photograph with you again!

Danielle & Duncan Engagement Session

Danielle and Duncan were game for anything when they decided to go ahead with their engagement session on the stormiest day I have seen so far this year.  This couple must have horseshoes stashed somewhere special though, because the clouds parted and the rain stopped right on cue to give us a three hour window to explore and take photographs around beautiful Elmira.  We made the most of the sudden sunny weather by climbing trees, walking in rivers, dancing in fields, and of course stopping for a beer along the way.  Then, as I hopped in my car to drive home, the skies opened again.  Can I take you guys along on all of my engagement sessions for good luck?

I so enjoyed taking these photos, and absolutely can't wait to photograph their lively do-it-yourself style wedding later this summer!  (keep your eyes out for that one, I think the photos will be really cool!)
