Anthea and Andrew took me for a tour of their early relationship for our engagement session together. I traveled to London to meet them and visit their university stomping grounds, the old classic diner where they spent many late nights and early mornings together, and even the room where they first met when Anthea asked him to take a picture for her. It was so special getting explore these nostalgic places together, and so much fun getting to photograph these two as they reminisced, giggled over old inside jokes, and marveled at where life takes you. Enjoy.
Jaimie and I spent the day at her farm foraging, styling, and taking photographs to help her with the re-brand of her business, Leaf and Bloom. Jaimie is a passionate florist with an eye for wild arrangements, incredible blooms, and unique bridal bouquets. I had the pleasure of getting to know her at first when I photographed a wedding she created the floral work for. Needless to say, it was spectacular; and when I shared the photographs with her I just had to mention that I would love to work with her again!
I was so excited a few months later when I received an email that she was re-branding her Toronto based floral company and needed some new photographs for her website and social media accounts. This was one of my first forays into the world of small business branding photography, and it's quickly become work that I feel very passionate about and hope to do much more of in the coming years.
I shot a mixture of film and digital work throughout the day as Jaimie created stunning bouquet arrangements, styled delicate boutonnieres, and put together a beautiful tablescape despite the wild wind we were working with that day. Her dogs roamed the farm around us, quietly becoming part of many of our shots, and we finished the day sitting on the back porch chatting about life and business as the sun finished setting. Since then I've been hooked on branding photography and working closely with other entrepreneurs to craft photographs unique to their business.
I truly can't recommend Jaimie's work enough. In addition to being the most lovely woman to work with, her floral styling work is absolutely stunning, and I always look forward to our next styled shoot together!
Welcome to the world little Everleigh, I'm so lucky I got to meet you already. Jamie and Chris, I can't wait to see the wonderful little girl she will continue to grow into with you two.
I'm beginning to expand my business towards more than wedding photography these days, as so many amazing people and interesting projects keep crossing my path. I've done everything in the past few months from photographing for Childhood Cancer Canada, to freestyle snowboard photography, to branding work for small businesses, to family and maternity sessions. I've enjoyed every one of these shoots so much that it's time to start sharing this more diverse work here on the blog. Hopefully, by seeing more of what I do, you'll get to know me better, and I'll have even more interesting photography opportunities come down the pipeline, (especially adventure and marine biology related projects, universe, if you're listening)!
For now, I wanted to start by sharing a few photos from a recent maternity session I had with Jamie and Chris. Jamie and I clicked right away when we spoke on the phone about what kind of maternity shots she wanted to create together. Natural, classic, honest, and simple photos, exactly what I love to capture! We took these photographs at the same house where these two got married, and it was the perfect setting to photograph the next chapter of their lives. I can't wait to work together again in a few more months when they welcome their new little one into the world!
Alex and I drove over the escarpment and back down again to get to her old barn studio, tucked into a country property near Collingwood. As we arrived, she apologized for the state of the place (as all creative types with inspiration everywhere must do), but I stepped inside and immediately fell in love. Two studio cats ran around my feet and into the back room, a horse walked by the window (and later stuck her head into the studio through the horse door on the side), and we immediately turned on space heaters to warm the old wooden floors. Plants fill the corners, little paintings and stitches of inspiration cover the walls, and the whole room has the beautiful smell of paper and old books, courtesy of her enviable collection of antique books in the back room.
As with all of my favorite spaces, Alex's studio is made up of bits and pieces put together over time. She and her dad re-did the inside of an old barn building, ripped up the grimy old flooring, and white washed the walls, hence the horse-entry door. The room is furnished with old pieces of furniture picked up at estate sales, found, and accepted as payment for work. Everything is refurbished by hand, from pain jobs to shelving overhauls, and the little plants, books, and sheets of inspiration scattered around are fascinating to look at. Everything has a story and a meaning to her. It's truly a creative's space.
Alex and I were styling and shooting vignettes of her custom designed paper goods for her website, and I couldn't resist snapping shot after shot of her studio while we worked. We spent the rest of the afternoon taking photos of beautiful paper goods, dancing to old music (and I mean true oldie goldies. I loved it.), playing with greenery, and hunting for the cats. It was arguably one of my favorite ways ever to spend an afternoon. :)
Take a look through below, and be sure to checkout her company Honour Bright next time you need cards, letterheads, or any custom paper work done. Her wedding stationary is beautiful and was also part of our last shoot at the Tremont Cafe!
I absolutely love doing studio shoots and tours, and am hoping to turn this into a series over time. So, if you or any creatives you know are interested in taking part please send me a message!
Enjoy the beautiful studio tour below, thank you so much for sharing Alex!
I've been lucky to get the chance to work with the three amazing ladies who have started 'The Copper Collective', an online vintage clothing company dedicated to repurposing and recycling gorgeous, high-quality, pre-loved clothing. We pulled this fall lookbook shoot together quickly at a park near Thornbury and had a fabulous time styling and shooting! I already can't wait to photograph their winter lookbook. In the meantime, follow their Facebook and instagram pages to keep your eye out for their pop-up shops!
A new blog post is long overdue here. My goal to post new work every 2 weeks (or lets be honest, once a month) has quickly been overshadowed by my goal to edit mountains of photographs on time. I'm not complaining, that means work has been good for my first full summer as a wedding photographer!
This was an incredibly fun session I did to put together some new professional and creative headshots for a friend. The bluffs is once again, one of my favourite sunset shooting locations of all time, combined with an awesome person and a beautiful day made for one of my favourite sessions of the summer. Clearly, I'm a photographer, not a writer :), take a look at the photos for a quick peek at what we created.
The crack of dawn is my absolute favorite time to take photographs. Over the past few years I have struck out in the dark on countless early morning photo adventures, making a giant mug of tea, tossing some snacks in a bag, and racing the sun out the door. Watching the sun rise in the morning over this impressive landscape was definitely a memorable one!
My good friend Kaitie came to visit me from Regina this past week, lucky me! She's the most infectiously enjoyable person and is always game for anything, so I was very happy to have her around for some adventures! We spent the week hiking, swimming, and photographing our way around Tobermory, Lions Head, and Collingwood, these are a few of my favorite photos and memories from the trip :).
I just finished editing photos from our family trip to Barbados this year. Wow that was a lot of work! I couldn't resist adding a few of my favorites here as my first blog post on the new web page! Cheers to family, friends, a gorgeous ocean, great food, and more beautiful sunlight than this photographer could capture!
